Winners! Beat Sidney Sussex W1 & Queens'
Armed with our highly complex new start from Andy, we were ready to attack City Sprints and see if we could win back the pots they accidentally gave us the day before...
Our first race against Sidney exorcised a few demons for some of the crew after last year; it certainly wasn't the neatest or most focused 400m we could have produced, but it did the trick and we rapidly got clear of Sidney, cut in ahead of them (yeah Julia!) and splashed our way to City.
Between races we decided to eat blueberry frosting, but we had some mango too so it was healthy.
For the final we agreed on some more technical points to focus on, and going off a few seats down on the staggered start we rapidly drew level with and past Queens'. This time we made a point of finishing each stroke fully and moving more together, settling into a nice rhythm and holding the intensity down past the boathouses. We won by officially 2 1/2 lengths but it looked like more; a solid victory and a fun Sunday evening for us, making it two pots from one weekend!

Crashed into Girton M1 and subsequently lost by two boat lengths
Having seen W1 cruise to victory in the previous division, we were all quite excited to get on the water and prove our mettle against Girton. Although it was a first crew, we felt that if we had fast start we could definitely hold them off for the sport race. Unfortunately the race did not go as planned. Off the start, I was slightly worried about us veering off into the bank, but as it turned out, we went the other way and started edging towards Girton. I struggled to get away and by the time we were past Clare boathouse, we were almost in the middle of the river. Given that we were slightly ahead with the staggered start, it didn't pose a problem at the beginning, but as Girton began to gain on us, our blades collided and inevitable that drew us even closer to each other. Luckily, no one got hurt and eventually Girton got away, pushing on to approximately a two boat length victory. It sure was an interesting experience and hopefully next time it comes around, I'll manage to do a better job!
